Great, Slow Digesting ProteinI've been looking for a high protein alternative to late night snacking, and this really hits to bulls-eye. It takes a lot longer to digest than whey protein, so I feel fuller longer. I also seem to sleep much better if I take this an hour before bed. My favorite way to prepare it is to mix 5-6 oz of almond milk and let it sit in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. It literally turns into pudding that I top with some berries. As with any Ascent product I've tried the flavor is top notch, which isn't easy to do with zero artificial ingredients. This stuff is amazing5Delicious, great for recovery.I LOVE ascent casein powder! I have not tried the whey but I m sure it tastes great as well. I love how clean the ingredients are. I have been using the chocolate (delish), the cappuccino tastes okay, and I just got the chocolate PB. The chocolate PB is good, but it s not strong on the PB taste I find it super similar to the plain chocolate but I find that delicious. This is the only reason for the 4 stars as I was hoping for a bit more PB flavor.Other than taste, I d give it 5 stars for function (recovery). I usually just mix it with a little water and make a casein pudding, and eat it before I go to bed. Casein protein is not whey, so for those reviews saying it doesn t mix well in a shaker bottle...well, it s not supposed to. I don t find it chalky as my nightly pudding. I look forward to it every night.4I really wanted to like this productSurprised by taste reviews. I really wanted to like this product. I have to hold my breath to choke it down just to get through the bag I bought. Sometimes I mix it into foods and it seems to help. Doesn't dissolve well in a shaker with water. Have tried both almond milk and water and with water it's easier to get down. I haven t tried the vanilla (I want to!) but the chocolate is not overly sweet or artificial tasting. The reviews that say it has a chemical taste and smell are spot on. There is no way you can drink it or even make casein pudding with it since it tastes so bad, and the only way I have found that I can ingest it is by making it into a mug cake. It tastes more like a coffee style flavor, but not a good one, and I can't identify a chocolate peanut butter flavor in it at all. Casein never tastes as good as whey, so my expectations weren't very high, however, I was very disappointed in the way it tastes. I am honestly afraid to try their whey protein and I will not be trying the other casein flavors. Now for the positive; I will say that after using protein powders for years I can tell you that the quality of the powder is very good... They just need to fix the flavoring.2For casein, the taste is amazing.If you're used to taking casein, then this will be just fine for you. I think the common misconception is people expect this to taste like, or have the consistency of whey, and it just doesn't. I've never had any casein without a gritty texture, but this tastes better than any I've ever had. Don't let the "horrible taste" reviews turn you off. Just know that casein and whey are two different types of protein.5Horrible tasting.I am surprised I didn't like this as it got so many good reviews. I find the taste to be awful - it's grainy and has a weird flavor considering it's supposed to be chocolate. I regret buying the 4lb bag, I thought I'd like it! I have previously purchased the Ascent Whey in Lemon and really liked that one!2
