Customer Reviews

Immediately relieved my heel painI have had excruciating plantar fasciitis in my left heel for several months. I bought a splint at the drugstore and have been sleeping in it, but the pain has only gotten worse. I love THIS splint because of how adjustable it is. I also like the strap that supports the heel itself. I tried the splint on while watching tv on a particularly bad evening, and was delighted to realize that my heel felt better within a few minutes of wearing. I m hopeful that by wearing it quite a lot over the next few weeks, I will see real improvement. Maybe I won t need the cortisone shot I have scheduled for next week. I took off one star for fitting issues. As a woman with a size 9.5w shoe, I ordered the small/medium size, and I do think that was the right call. However, I have fairly heavy calves, and it was a bit difficult to pull the top strap far enough to attach it around my leg. The straps are NOT stretchy. It would be nice if that strap were just an inch or two longer. The hook-and-loop sections on all of the straps also should be a little longer to allow for greater adjustments. All in all, I am so glad I bought this splint. 4Very comfortable and worksI have two other kinds, one more of a boot which is heavy and awkward and one very light but it doesn't limit my foot movement enough. This one is right in the middle. Small and light enough that I can wear it all night without any issues or discomfort but robust enough that it stops me from pointing my toes. It really works. After wearing it all night I can walk in the morning without issues. Last night I forgot to put it on and this morning when I got out of bed I almost fell down. I was grabbing onto everything along the way until my feet warmed up.Now don't get me wrong, this won't fix your plantar fasciitis, I still have mine after wearing this a month, but it will eliminate that terrible warm up in the morning we all know about. I am also doing stretching exercises and rolling on frozen ice bottles and strengthening my leg muscles and I am seeing progress. I think if I keep doing all of that, and wear this brace, I will have it fixed in another month. It is already way better. 5Have Plantar Fasciitis? Try this combination!I developed plantar fasciitis this summer, (too much barefoot walking), which is the kind of pain that will really ruin a vacation. So, I've been on the seach for items to help me deal with it. I tried a hard boot and hated it, so I switched to a soft boot -- which is comfortable to sleep in -- but have no arch support at all, so not very effective. Also, wearing it caused pressure on my heel, causing it to hurt. (Note: Make sure the straps aren't too tight.)Putting my thinking cap on, I set out on a search through Amazon-land to find items that might correct those issues. I came up with a winning combination.First, The soft boot is: "Comfort Dorsal Night Splint for Effective Relief From Plantar Fasciitis - Small / Medium By MARS Wellness," with heel supports: PROFOOT Plantar Fasciitis Orthotics, Women's Size 6-10 (1 Pair), Inserts to Help Support & Cushion the Heel & Relieve Pain. But you'll also need: the Arch Support Brace by Vive (two to a pack), can be worn with most of my sandals, and are even useful when I'm barefoot. I love them so much that I bought a pair for two other people who are also suffering with PF, and boy were they grateful!Using this combo, my plantar fasciitis cleared up in two weeks, and I believe it's because I actually wore the boot at night and the braces during the day AND night; (something I wouldn't have done if they were uncomfortable). I still wear the combination of these items at night, just to make sure I don't backslide!NOTE: I wore the braces so much that I developed blisters! Using some Tubagrip (Tubigrip Tubular Bandage Size D, 10M Box (2 Pack)) fixed that right up. Also -- be careful to use the right level of density inside the Vive braces. They come with three sets of little silicon pads that fit in a pocket in the braces, that let you control the amount of arch support. Pick the most comfortable sized pads until you can increase the arch support without pain.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Last note: I also found some amazing flip-flops created by an orthopedist, Vionic with Orthaheel Technology -Tide II Flip Flop Sandal. They have great heel cushioning and serious arch support. (They may seem hard at first but they soften up and feel amazing.) I walked all over New England in them this summer with zero discomfort! 5This works!!!My heel pain is fairly recent , about 3 weeks. I figured I'd try this splint and I'm very happy I did. The first time I put it on, I started securing the velcro at the foot. Wrong move. The splint seemed to be very uncomfortable. I read the reviews and figured out what to do. 1st, I put my foot through the foot strap but don't tighten the velcro. Next place the shin guard and secure it with the velcro. This way the angle is right. Then secure the foot velcro then the heel. You don't have to tighten the foot velcro really well ; in my case I make sure my toes are loose. Then I flex my foot and pull on that vertical strap. I put this on when I'm ready for bed. I have walked with it on and found it to be quite comfortable. I have never used any other splint but the other products are either too much money or too uncomfortable looking. 5In my experience the splints that wrap the bottom of your foot are better at getting that critical right angle than those that ...This is a combined review for the 5 types of night boot/braces for plantar faciatis I've tried over a number of years. I'm sure your millage may varry, depending on foot, leg shape and more. I have large calfs and triangular shaped size 8.5 foot womans. My PF for short started a few years ago when I was working in a hospital and walking miles in it as a chaplain. Not sure why I've got current flare...In my experience the splints that wrap the bottom of your foot are better at getting that critical right angle than those that are on the top of your foot and don't even generally pretend to put your foot at a right angle. Braces with stabilizing, tightening straps on the sides that allow you to flex the foot up are helpfull. Anything which has a picture of a foot on its toes - well just laugh and move on.Futuro Night Plantar Fasciitis Sleep Support, Adjustable - This supports from the top and was a waste. Just useless.Night Splint 90 Degree Plantar Fasciitis Heel and Foot Pain Night Boot Padded (Large) This was too big and I sloshed around. There is a balance in making something small enough you can sleep in it and not get tangled in the sheets, and big enough that it does its job. Maybe in the right size this would have been okay, but I got the large because of the reported calf dimensions and it was useless for me.Comfort Dorsal Night Splint for Effective Relief From Plantar Fasciitis - Small / Medium By MARS Wellness This is now my traveling brace. It packs up small and isn't quite as comfortable or as rigorous in putting my foot at the right angle as my favorite (the Vive) but it is okay. I might padd it a bit to adjust how the velcro touches my leg....Plantar Fasciitis Splint By Vive - Hard Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint Relieves Inflammation & Pain - Foot Splint Best for me. It is a modest size, has a rubber tread on bottom which means that I feel more secure going to the bathroom at night. The wedge really improves the angle. And you can tighten the side straps for more pressure (believe me a small adjustment does a lot) I really like that the closures on the straps mean you can set tension once and don't have to figure that out again every night. If you don't have large legs you might not be able to get the calf tight enough, but for me it is the best. I ended up trimming several of the straps. I might do another adjustment to the way the velcro touches my leg....Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint by Vive - I'm not a confirmed buyer on Amazon for this one because I got it (or something very much like it) from my podiatrist. It is middling successful. I just couldn't get more than a 90 degree angle out of it, and it is so high on my leg some sleeping positions are not comfortable. But it is made of a nicer fabric than my 2 favorites (Vive and Mars) so it has that going for it. At the moment I have this by my reading chair and in my current problems am putting it on just while downstairs and relaxing. If you are very sensitive to the fabrics on your skin you might want to use this over my number 1 or 2Hope this is helpful to you and that you don't have to buy 5 braces to find your winner! 5A splint that really does resolve symptomsAs a follow-up two years or so following purchase, The symptoms of plantar fasciitis are resolved. The resolution came about by using the brace at night and occasionally during the day while resting; a 1 inch strap brace around the plantar area when wearing shoes; and soft inner soles from the local sporting goods store. It then dawned on me what caused the problem to begin with: Tucked-in bedding. It extends the feet, causing the Plantar Fasciitis. I have not tucked in the corners of sheets and blankets for nearly a year and this accelerated my recovery to the point of being cured. UNTUCK THE BEDDING.A follow-up review, one year or so after purchase and use. This brace did relieve my symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis. I first used it on my left foot which had lesser symptoms. The left was soon symptom free, probably because I dealt with the problem at its beginning. The right is well advanced but soon experienced great relief of symptoms. The splint is most helpful when one is sleeping. Fortunately the splint is small and not bulky. There is not much notice of the brace while sleeping. I discovered that using the brace while relaxing during the day was helpful in keeping the foot bent, further reducing the long term problem of retracted tendons. One can walk very short distances indoors with the splint but I do not recommend it. This is not a walking brace. One reason for not walking in this splint as it increases wear at the heal area. The velcro-like straps are large enough for adjustment and for ease of removal of the splint. After a year of use, the top strap did not adhere as well as the other straps. After a year of use, the heel area has enlarged. It would benefit by more stitching in order to be more durable. The splint is still usable of course.I expected the splint to be serviceable for about a year as is the case with most such devices. Mine is still in service though I will replace it in the fairly near future because a fresh brace works best. This splint does offer relief, though experiences will vary of course. 5Saved me from the excruciating pain and from spending a lot of moneyI've had excruciating pain in my feet. The pain was so bad that I could barely walk in the morning and the pain would still continue throughout the day. As the day went on the pain would sometimes get worse. I was massaging my feet, taking ibuprofen to manage the pain and also iced my feet at least twice a day. I've tried a big bulky night splint before and it seemed to help one foot but I could never sleep with it on and it was at night that my feet seemed to tighten up. When I saw this splint after spending a lot of money on another night splint, shoe inserts, arch cushions, a foot brace and compress sleeves I didn't think I had much more to loose to try this splint out. After a week of wearing this for a few hours while I slept the pain got dramatically better. Now that I have it adjusted where I can sleep with it all night I don't have any foot pain in the morning. Plus I don't have the pain throughout the day. The rare times that I do have foot pain is very rare and not as painful. So I ordered a second one for my other foot. This splint has saved me from spending thousands of dollars. I would highly recommend this to anyone. 5Pretty sure it's helpingI bought this after using a night splint before and it helping my plantar faciitis. This is smaller than the previous thus easier to get used to with sleeping. it is padded pretty well as well so I don't have a problem laying one foot on top the other. It is easy to put on and you should look at previous reviews about not being too tight. It I keep the top shin strap relatively loose I have no problems but if I forget and put it on tight, my achilles ends up burning during the night and I have to remove. I don't pull the heel strap too tight either because once felt like the heel was swollen in the hole. (It was already swollen but tighter made it hurt worse) . So keep the heel and shin straps just tight enough to fasten . Also I am 5'4 and 138lbs., calf size 14 1/4 inches. My calves are not big but not small either so I think anyone much larger might have a hard time having enough strap to fasten around calf. I have been wearing it for about 1 week and think it is helping because I am not doing anything else but stretching and wearing decent shoes with arch support during the day, which I had already been doing. 4Far too often the reviews I read are from people who will make a comment like: "I have not used it yetThe seller requested a review. Far too often the reviews I read are from people who will make a comment like: "I have not used it yet, but looks like it should work". This will NOT be one of those reviews.I am a fit 66 year old man. After installing 10 security cameras on the soffits of my two story house, thereby spending a lot of time on a ladder, I found it extremely painful to walk, due to what I quickly determined to be plantar fasciitis. I started the online research immediately. Two things became apparent to me, I needed to stop running around the house barefoot, at least during the healing phase, instead wearing shoes with significant support (aka "orthotics") & that a "night splint" was highly recommended. When sleeping, my feet would take an extremely flat orientation, and getting up and placing weight on my feet was quite painful. So, I purchased orthotics, and the almost immediate effect was some relief when walking around, although the pain was still there, especially if, for example, I sat on a recliner and my feet could "flatten" or point down. At the same time I ordered this night splint after reading many reviews. The "getting up at night" and "comfort under the covers" issues, led me away from the other kind of night splint you will see out there. Shoe size 9 EE, ordered the S/M - fits perfect. How do these perform for me? I normally shy away from the overused "amazing" declaration, yet my experience in the 6 1/2 weeks of use has allowed me to say, my recovery so far has been amazing. How you ask? OK, I wear the night splint every night to sleep since the day I gotthem. I have absolutely no problem with the covers feeling oppressive to my toes, or hindering free movement or conflicting with the sheets. If sleeping on my side, the splint does not hurt the opposite foot/ankle at all. In fact the padding in the splint softens the points of contact between the feet! When I get up for the inevitable night whizz, I can put weight on the foot without the gradual process I had started to do prior to splint use.Determined not to let the "night" part of the devices' description deter me, after a few days I began to wear the splint during the day, if I was going to be in the house for awhile so that my foot remained in a better position longer. I found that a pair of slippers I already had would fit comfortably over the splint, thereby keeping the bottom of the thing clean. It is quite easy to walk after a short internal observation of what does the thing want me to do to enable an easy gait. Even the stairs is not a problem (since day mode requires some stair work) if a small style modification is applied to your method (slower & with a slight turnout of the foot).Problems? one night I adjusted the heel strap Velcro too tight and awakened to a hot spot on the back of my heel, where the heel cutout ends, like where a shoe's rim digs into your heel at the Achilles connection. I found the right tension for the heel retention since and this has never happened again. In fact the heel retention is something I appreciate, here's why. During the what-is-the-correct-tension-for-best-retention .vs. too-tight-ouch-heel-pain process, I left it off to see what happened. Folks, IMO, heel retention is important to keeping the splint where you want it positioned, and was one of the features that attracted me to this splint. I also experimented with the forefoot Velcro adjusters (2) to dial-in what worked for me. Now none of these things are hard to do.It tweaks the experience and therefore the results. IE, you actually wear the thing. Initially I was concerned (worried) that the forefoot strappage would curl my foot under, that didn't happen. I am healing now, pain is much abated. Spoiler Alert...it is hard to look sexy getting into bed with a night splint! Conclusion: "WORKS FOR ME!!" Get one and use it every day, er, night... 5Great ResultsWhen I discovered I had Plantar Fasciitis I started asking a lot of questions and researching information about it. Everyone said it takes a very long time of therapy, possibly even shots in the heel. Not being one to deal with another long slow recovery of any type I decided to take the bull by the horns and do what I could on my own. I looked at a lot of possible night splints and this one had really good reviews so decided to give it a try. I am happy to report that I am having amazing results immediately. Some mornings I almost forget that I have a problem. The best thing so far for me is wearing comfortable good support shoes at all times during the day and then at bedtime I put the splint on and go to bed with an ice pack under my foot. Only minimal pain and discomfort the rest of the day. I would have given it 5 stars but I have had to make a few adjustments when wearing the splint to get completely comfortable. Such as wearing a lite weight sock under the splint due to it rubbing on my little toe. And figuring out the right Velcro adjustments for full comfort. But these things are minor considering the results I am getting from the splint. 4
