Bubble tea pearlsPros:-Cooks up easy & fast-Big bag will last a long time even after opened (no exp. date on bag though)-MAKE BUBBLE TEA at HOME!!Cons:-A bit of that unpleasant sour/bitter taste some pearls haveI do like these pearls. In terms of texture, they accurately reproduce many of our local bubble tea shops. They can be cooked squishy or firm depending on preference. There's a bit of a sour/bitter flavor to them that I notice with some other pearls - I'm not a huge fan of that. But cooking them long enough and mixing in some sugar after hides it alright. Overall, 4/5, I would buy again & they're definitely the exact same thing sold at some bubble tea shops but if you're not a fan of pearls with the slight bitter flavor you may consider trying another brand.4Oh. My. God. BOBA!Oh my god. BOBA! I got this after binge drinking boba tea at my local "tea house". These are sooo good. You get a abundant amount of boba for a steal. I looked up different ways/recipes to cook up this stuff up...the whole package is not in English, so you will want to look up preparations and such.Other than that, GET YO SELF SOME BOBA!!My favorite way to cook it so far is as followed:-Bring a small pot of water to a boil.-While waiting to boil add a few spoonfuls of sugar and a few spoonfuls of honey.-Once it boils drop desired amount of Boba into boiling water.-Let simmer/boil (it will 'boil' over like spaghetti, KEEP an eye on it) for 5 mintues.-YOU MUST KEEP THE LID ON as much as possible. It can boil over like I said.-After 5 minutes they will seem noticeably swollen and gooey.-Scoop them out and place them in a small Tupperware with sugar water covering them.-Either let them cool in the fridge or serve them in a hot tea right away.-Later enjoy the decadence in some green tea!I know these directions are lengthy I apologize for that, but these are so worth it. I hope this review and small synopsis helps!5Bobalicious! Quick and tastyI've ordered this product from this company several times now, and i'm always pleased by quality/price.The good:1. The instructions on how to prepare are simple to follow, and result in perfect pearls every time.2. The taste I adjust according to my mood (a little or a lot of sugar.)3. The texture is always consistent. The bad:1. I eat them all quickly.5These are the best tapioca pearls for bubble tea!!I LOVE making bubble tea!!! Still on the search for sugar free Boba Tea powders... so that way the fat content of making my favorite drink is an acceptable thing to make everyday. These Pearls are definitely the best out of any homemade ones that I've used yet. I do let them boil for about 8 minutes, simmer for 6 minutes and then I let them sit in the sweetened water (with stevia) for 2 minutes before draining them of the water and rinsing them off with cold water. From there I let them sit in either Agave Nectar syrup or a syrup made from Stevia or preferably Monk Fruit Sweetener (Tastes the best). If you plan to keep extra and store them in the refrigerator, I've tried the pearls both in water that covers them completely and also a small container where they continue soaking in a syrup/sweetener. Both have been successful. Just do not keep for more than 5 days after cooking.5Just like in the Boba Shops! Here's the reason why some people who reviewed said that it didn't taste as good as the boba shops (or that they tasted just okay): In most boba shops, after they boil the boba, they soak the beads in brown sugar, sugar, or honey. This is what gives them that sweet taste. As for me, I boil them, strain out the water and then add a Tablespoon or more of honey to sweeten them up.These beads boil up just like pasta in that it doesn't matter how much water you put in the pot. They swell up a bit in the 7 or so minutes after you throw them into boiling water and simmer them. Then, you pour off the excess water and you're done unless you want to add a sweetner which you would do at that time. I did read online about a doctor saying that boba balls from other countries may have traces of bad things in them so don't over consume them. The doctor suggested that we make our own. As for me, I'll stay with this product and just not eat them everyday.5Easy and deliciously chewy! Keep in mind, these are "quick cook boba." I got the regular kind before I had prime so I couldn't find them again but after seeing these with so many good reviews, I got them. Upon receiving them, I realized they were in fact, quick cook but it turns out... they're just as good.*THEY TAKE ABOUT 30 MINUTES TOTAL, NOT 5*To make them: get a big enough pot that they won't stick together, your water MUST be at a rolling boil. Drop them in, stir, then wait 30-45 seconds until they float. Once they do, put a top on it and turn it to medium heat for 8 minutes (start the timer when you put the top on). When it beeps, turn it down to simmer for another 5-8 minutes depending on your preferred chewiness (I do 6). Drain the water and drop them in super cold water, switching it out a few times so it stays cold. Leave the cooked boba in sweetened water for a minimum of 15 minutes before adding to drinks. You can do this by mixing brown sugar (my choice), regular sugar, maple syrup, honey, etc. to a super small amount or water (see my pic for how little water you need cause it will be displaced, for this, I made 1/2 cup boba). For one drink, a little less than 1/4 cup uncooked boba is perfect.5A little boba goes a long wayI like these bobas. The cook time is short & they hold up for several hours. The bobas aren't terrible but we have always enjoyed them with a little flavor.I sweeten the water for bobas with either maple syrup or a few drops of vanilla extract & a sprinkle of sugar.15 bobas is the right amount for one 10 oz milk tea. I always make too many but they're so good!!!!These come in a few different sizes. The smaller size fits in the fridge the easiest. Unless you make vast quantities, there doesn't appear to be a good reason (for me) to go large.Store them air-tight in the fridge.5Life Hack: Microwave em!Pro tip: you can sprinkle a few of these in a mug of water and microwave them for 3 minutes MAX in a 1200 watt microwave. (Anything longer makes them gross and tough.) I got the perfect texture without all the boiling and sitting and all that! They are the perfect boba pearls. Plus, then you can add in your powdered tea mix into the boba mug water and boom! lazy boba tea lol! (for sweeter balls, drain mug water and dollop honey on em. mix it up, then add tea!)I definitely recommend these! And it's such a big bag, too! Ive had like, six teas and havent made a single dent in the bag! Came perfectly packaged as well. I store mine in one of those vacuum locked better homes n gardens plastic storage jar thingies and it keeps em nice and dry!Wonderful, versatile little yum yums. Absolutely, positively pleased. 5So Easy to Make! DIY Boba TeaI am seriously so happy that I bought these tapioca pearls - they have really made adjusting to living in an area with no boba that much easier. And they're super easy to make! The package comes pretty much how it looks in the picture. It's a big huge bag of boba and once you cut it open, you're exposing the rest of the package to air. I would suggest putting the bag into a reusable Zip-lock bag and storing it in a cool and dry place. Making the boba was a bit nerve-wrecking just because I wanted it to be perfect, but it was surprisingly super easy. I had watched a few YouTube videos and read a few of the other reviewers' take on how to make boba. In the end I kind of just went for it and here's what I found to work.1) Boil enough water so that if you dump a handful of boba into the pot, the water covers the top. But boil water by itself first.2) Once water reaches a boil, throw in your desired amount of boba. When you toss in a few handfuls, it doesn't seem like much, but it's actually a lot. I think two small handfuls is enough for a cup of milk tea.3) Turn the fire down to a simmer and boil the boba with the lid on for an additional 5-7 minutes.4) Taste test the boba. Is it chewy enough? It should be relatively chewy, but still a bit softer than expected. This is what you want!5) Drain the boba into a colander and run it under cold water. If you want your boba to have that "honey boba" sweetness, I recommend also:6) Put one or two spoonfuls of brown sugar into a bowl/cup.7) Pour hot water into the bowl so that the sugar melts.8) Dump the boba that you just boiled into the cup. The sugar water should be covering the top of the boba.9) Pour some honey into the bowl and mix.10) Stick the boba into the fridge and let sit for 30 minutes. And after you make your tea, pour that boba in and you're good to go. The boba was almost as good as most places I've been to, and definitely better than some places that I have had where boba was way too hard. You can adjust the amount of sugar/honey to your liking, but I found using white sugar didn't allow for the boba to taste as good as when I used brown sugar. If you keep the boba in the fridge for more than 1-2 hours, it does get super hard. So easy to make! I've shared my 2.2 lb bag with several friends and have been using it for awhile now and I just bought another bag. Highly recommend if you want to make your own boba tea! Or just eat boba by itself (which I might have done several times).Since it's so easy to make, I might just reconsider spending money at teahouses and just making my own instead!5Very Nice Taste and TextureI cooked this product according to the simple, easy-to-follow instructions written in good English and was pleasantly surprised to get a tender tapioca that was just chewy enough for me. The second step says to put the tapioca on low, but since it has just been boiling for 10 minutes I found Off to be the same as low. And I could even leave them in there for a while without the texture deteriorating. I read that many shops that sell bubble teas leave them in a slow cooker which was what emboldened me to try it.While I have no problem with the taste or the texture of this product I am concerned about the various other ingredients other than tapioca starch which I cannot pronounce. I have a rule about not buying foods with things in them that I cannot pronounce. While this is a great boba is you don't care about those "other" ingredients, I have moved on to one that is just tapioca starch and maple syrup.5
