Customer Reviews

bland, flavorless and not freshI read so many good reviews, but I have not idea why. I get olive oil from all over the world and even belong to a private olive oil club. Ellora Farms was one of the worst I have tasted in a long time. And it was not fresh, aromatic, deeply colored- no texture or flavor.1Very good tasting olive oilVery good tasting olive oil. I've used in several dressings for salads so far. Great with real balsamic vinegar. The olive oil was tasty yet took on other flavors very nicely. Tastes very good as a finishing oil on poached fish, pasta, and risotto. I haven't really used in a heated application like saute or frying as this is a cold pressed oil. However; I have used the oil on pitas with seasoning and stuck them in the oven. Tasted great. I've also used the olive oil on pizzas in place of tomato sauce and was very pleased with the results. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good tasting olive oil or finishing oil that doesn't break the wallet. I would buy again.5The Real Deal Olive Oil: Genuine and Delicious. Highly ReocmmendAfter reading "Real Food" (Olmstead), I've tried to find a good source of genuine fresh olive oil, not cut with other oils or rancid. This is it! It's delicious! And the bottles are just right size to finish in six weeks, the recommended time after opening olive oil so it doesn't go rancid. I highly recommend.5One of the "real ones."I switched to this brand, after I read the report about the FAKE olive oils! I'd been using two store bought brands for years and then I found out they were on the bad list. I read the list of recommended EVOO and I chose Ellora. It tastes fine!!!!! I'd give it five stars but the only problem is that the spout is a bit far from the corner of the can .... so when you pour ... it can dribble down the side. That's ok. I'll live with it. I always store olive oil on a dish anyway. Easier than constantly cleaning up the kitchen counter.4Will order it again!Long ago I decided to never go cheap on EVOO. Since then I tried many different varieties, recommended by renown chefs and experts, from retailers and online sources. I tried extra virgin olive oils from Spain and Tunisia, from Italy and Greece, from California ...This oil from Ellora Farms caught my attention because of good feedback and recommendations. I'm glad I order it. The taste is very smooth, albeit pretty light, not full body. It tastes amazing in my favorite veggy salads, and as marinade for delicate fish, steaks or lamb chops. It goes very well with freshly baked bread ...I'll definitely order it again, though I'm not completely switching to use it exclusively (sometimes I'd like to have more peppery and full body taste) ...5Very Good EVOO, but Not My FavoriteI use extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) every day. I never purchase from grocery stores, because it seems like all the EVOO's there are adulterated. If you don't get a mild burn at the back of the throat (what some describe as a peppery taste), then it is not authentic. That usually happens after a couple of minutes, and usually causes you to cough. This sensation is actually caused by an anti-inflammatory called oleocanthal. As far as health benefits, the more of this, the better. Also, the more of this, the more pungent the olive oil tastes. The olive oil experts even rate EVOO's according to whether they are one, two, or three cough oils. Sounds strange, but research it. I did back when I switched from the fake grocery store olive oils to the authentic oils. The Ellora is a very good extra virgin olive oil, but not my favorite. A few years ago I tried a California olive oil (won't mention the name) and have been using that ever since. I occasionally try other olive oils to see if I can find one that I like better. The Ellora seems a little smoother than the California olive oil I use, but not nearly as flavorful, and I suspect that the California oil has more oleocanthal.4Tastes strong - just like I like it!This is really good olive oil! I'm on my second order of a two-liter pack. I drizzle tons of it on lettuce and tomato (we have a garden) and it's just amazing. It wouldn't be hyperbole to call it the best olive oil I've ever had, as far as I can remember. It's a little on the spicy side (the first taste always has the most kick) but I've read that it means it has a higher polyphenol content. One of the reasons I'm eating so much olive oil is for its purported health benefits. I can't say I've noticed anything outright, but good nutrition is something the results of which are seen over years or decades, not days. Also, despite being an oil (and thus, high in calories) I don't really seem to be gaining any weight from it, but I eat mainly a low-carb diet anyway. If a strong-tasting olive oil is what you're after, this could be it.5A Fine Certified Olive Oil.It is sad that so much of the olive oil in markets is spurious at best, and authentic growers and purveyors must rely upon certification--as does this wonderful oil from Crete. Many people who rely strictly on higher priced Italian oils don't realize that a large quantity actually comes from Greece. I have eight different oils from Spain, Italy, California, and Greece in my larder right now, and Ellora Farms olive oil is one that I will assuredly buy again. Note as well that it is a fragrant oil with a nice bite to it, which should come as a surprise to folks who may be used to bland supermarket fare.5Great oil, some of the bestThis is a two pack of steel cans of olive oil. I like to buy oil in these cans--the light-proof container keeps the oil from going rancid a bit longer. The spout is clever--it's the typical pull-up spout on oil cans but it has a screw cap. The oil is from Greece--Crete, reputed to be where some of the best Greek oil is grown on 1,000-year old trees. It's single point-of-origin, unlike most grocery store oils, which are multiple origin oil, generally Tunisian, Italian and other oils. The problem is, Italians consume olive oil in larger quantities than they can produce, so a lot of cheaper exported oil is mixed with North African oil to make it available.Worse yet, there is a lot of fraud in oils. I used to talk with a professor at U Mass-Lowell who was using HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) to discern if oils were being adulterated. He was finding that trendy oils, like rice bran oil, were often nothing like what was listed on the label. Fast forward a decade later, and there has been a huge exposure of fraud in Italian oils in particular. Spanish oils were also involved in a terrible tragedy in 1981 in Spain where non-food grade oils were sold in cans to households instead of the traditional olive, and 600 Spaniards died.I also like some California oils, but unless you can taste them, you don't know if you are going to get an aggressive, bitter oil or a fruity, light oil. I find California oils, due to the wildly different micro-climates there, really are quite variable.I prefer my EVOO to be a bit lighter and less aggressive. This oil is a nice lemony green-yellow with a fruity, grassy flavor that is very pleasant. It's not the most exciting oil I've ever tasted, but it's not for cooking. It makes heavenly salad dressings and drizzles. I made a lemon parsley dressing for a warm salad, and I was very happy with it.For cooking, a plain 100% oil is best. (Colavita and Trader Joes make fine ones.) I have two cruets, different colors. The EVOO is in one, the cooking oil in the other. Rachael Ray Cucina Stoneware EVOO Dispensing Bottle, Agave Blue is fairly nice--light proof and only the flap on the top is a bit annoying as it lets in air, but just don't fill it so full and use it up frequently.5Great Olive Oil at a Great Price! This is a very tasty olive oil. For years I used a good quality EVOO (Kirlkland), I still use it for its healty quailities in cooking but a while back I learned that there are olive oils that have a rich flavor and are good for dipping french bread, salds, etc. I began searching grocery store for what I hoped would be a full flavored oil to no avail. After an online study of EVOO's I learned a little more. I discovered Ellora Farms on Amazon and tried it it. I wasn't disappointed and even better, the cost of 2 bottles was the about the same as one of some of the other good oils I tried.5
