Super happy!!!I am a weekend or meet-up with a friend kind of coffee drinker. When my acid reflux started flaring up I was so disappointed that I would have to avoid coffee for a period of time. Generally coffe is not my trigger, but still want to go alkaline as much as possible. I did some research and discovered there were low acid coffee alternatives. After reading a bunch of reviews, this brand seemed to be the most consistently positive so gave it a try. It's not aggravating my reflux at all, but every one is different. I will still drink it in moderation. Taste is of course subjective, but I can't tell any difference in taste. I love it. They ground up superbly in my Nutribullet with the milling flat blade. I think this product is worth a try if you find yourself in the same AR boat.5It's not what I thought it was...This "sniffs in" at about 3.5 stars. I recall I was on the fence about this one since it wasn't crystal clear if this was a low-acid coffee for heartburn sufferers OR a coffee that simply had lower acidity levels affecting the taste. It appears this is a coffee focused on the latter, not the former. Since I have GERD, this wasn't really what I was shopping for. Other reviewers indicate the same comment about it not being an ideal choice for heartburn sufferers.That being said, here is my review of the product based on taste and flavor:For the record, I use a Breville Burr Grinder to get the proper grind for making hot coffee and cold brew that I make home. My coffeemaker is a DeLonghi model costing around $100 or less. I use a gold metal basket to carry the grounds. It sniffs pretty good out of the sack and I'm an odd bird so I like to bury my beak in the gap between the carafe and the drip of my coffeemaker during the early part of the brew cycle. It smells pretty good but not as good as Lucy Jo's Mellow Belly Low Acid Brazilian coffee. I bought both of these at the same time to compare and contrast for a new low acid coffee.The color of the brew is deep and dark. There is no bitterness or sourness to speak of which is pretty remarkable. A mere touch of sourness came on later but it was very nominal. I'm not getting much off of this brew via nose or taste. It's a little non-descript compared to Lucy Jo's as well. It tastes soft and smooth with some whole milk added but all I'm picking up is the roasted flavor and some nuttiness. The body is full. The second cup was a little bit better than the first. I definitely feel the acid more here compared to Lucy Jo's which isn't surprising now. I doubt I'll order this again since I was seeking a truly low-acid coffee produced for GERD sufferers. I typically mix some other favorite producers with low-acid beans so that it becomes more interesting and complex than a low-acid coffee on its own.3Bitter coffeeI have been ordering Guatamalan coffee by Java Planet for several years and love it! However, when I last needed coffee, my favorite was not available, so I ordered thisJava Planet Columbian coffee. I hoped that coffee by the same company made with beans from another region would be just as good. What a disappointment! It is very bitter and nothing I do can completely rescue it. A trick I've used all my adult life to rescue bitter coffee is to add a pinch each of cinnamon, cocoa, and salt. With other coffees, I've found that the salt removes the some bitterness and the cinnamon and cocoa add a bit of flavor to cover the bitterness. My standby rescue method doesn't work with this coffee, and even extra real cream doesn't help! I'm unwilling to add sugar. . . Unfortunately, I bought a 2-pack of this coffee, and since it is so expensive, I can't afford to throw it away. I have just finished the first bag this morning, and will have to use up the second one before reordering my favorite Guatamalan coffee. Don't buy this unless you like bitter coffee!2Not Low Acid CoffeeBuyer be warned. If you are searching for low acid because it's the only coffee you can drink the description is wrong here. The coffee you get is "mild acidity". Amazon issue here as well. I tried canceling this order 3 times and it did not go thru.1Quality has gone downhillI have been buying the Columbian coffee from a Java Planet for at least a year, but the last order I received is not very good. The flavor is bland and the aroma is rather unpleasant this time - it almost has a chemical undertone - definitely not that coffee smell I look forward to in the morning. I m mixing it with organic coffee from Trader Joe s to be able to use it up, but not happy with it. I will be looking to try another brand.3Over-roasted, bitter aftertasteThese beans are over-roasted. I wish they were medium instead of medium-dark because the aftertaste is burnt and long-lasting. I have to grind them coarse to decrease the bitterness.They smell wonderful when you open the bag and they are fresh, but if you don't like dark roasts you won't like the flavor of these. By the other reviews, I thought this was the holy grail. I guess most people's palates don't mind burnt bean flavors. I like to taste beans, not char.It's a shame because this is the only Colombian bean that JP offers. If you're looking for low-acid, medium-roast, organic Colombian beans, try Fresh Roasted Coffee Colombian, and check out my review there. They're not my holy grail, but pretty good.I'm going to try JP's variety pack and see if maybe one of those works for me. I am alsoconsidering Blackwelders (sadly not organic). The hunt continues for the perfect coffee here on Amazon...3There is nothing I don't LOVE about this coffee!Java Planet's Colombian Organic is the best coffee from the best company. They deliver on everything they promise in the description and more.I usually prefer a medium roast, but am left longing for something stronger. For me, most dark roasts are just overdone. They are too oily for my grinder and taste burned and bitter.This coffee comes in a medium-dark roast that is is bold without the acidity. The flavor is smooth and rich, with a fullness that will leave you feeling more than satisfied. The beans smell like heaven, and this company treats their customers like royalty.You can tell this is a family-run business, and it really shows. This is a quality organic bean, sealed in a specially made bag that keeps the coffee fresh. I am highly sensitive to all sorts of additives and pesticides, and I haven't had a single hint of either in this product.And to top it all off, Java Planet beats all of my expectations of customer service. They connect with their customers directly, and reward their loyalty consistently. What else could you ask for? Every coffee I tried would give me such bad acid reflux, indigestion pains, etc. But not this! I can finally enjoy my cup o joe woohhooo5I can enjoy coffee again!So thrilled with this coffee. I happened upon this brand when searching for low-acidity coffee and purchased based on the positive reviews. I'm not typically a dark roast fan; however I haven't been able to drink coffee in over a year due to GI issues so I wasn't about to be picky. I clicked "order" and prayed this low-acid coffee would be the solution to my problems. Could I really drink coffee again without feeling like a bonfire is roasting my insides? Well, I'm pleased to report that YES! Yes, I'm able to drink coffee again!! And it's DELICIOUS! The dark roast is so smooth and not bitter at all; no funky flavor due to the low acid content. My coworkers love the taste as well. Most importantly, my belly is as unaffected as if I drank a glass of plain water. Thanks, Java Planet, for restoring my sanity and allowing me to resume my daily coffee routine I so sorely missed.5Shut up and take my money! All of it!Holy Hell! As soon as I open the box my mouth began to salivate from the aroma of the beans. However, smell good beans =/= taste good beans. It was already 7:00pm on a work night when I opened the box, but it smelled so good I couldn't help myself. I went straight for the grinder. Ugh, the aroma when I opened the grinder was almost too much. I honestly considered just eating the grind raw. But I held back and loaded my french press with hot water. Unfortunately, my french press doesn't have a great seal. The whole house smelled like the world's most exotic coffee shop within seconds. Waiting for the brew to steep was longest dratted wait of my life. But once I started to pour my cup....OH LAWD! Get in my mouth now! Yet the punishment continued as I was forced to choose between sipping and enjoying the coffee, or going with my gut instinct of chugging it like a frat boy drinks a beer. In the end, it was worth the wait. Quite possibly the best cup of coffee I've ever had even when considering I was up until 2am from that danged cup of coffee. All is fine in the world though, as it was just another excuse to make another brew first thing in the morning.After downing a cup and heading to work only to suffer through another mundane day of office work, I couldn't wait until lunch to brew another cup. Finally lunch hour arrived, and I grabbed my coffee bag out of my Pyrex container to start the highlight of my day. I wasn't even done filling the grinder with beans before I had two people come into my office to ask where that amazing smell was coming from. Well, that was odd, and a first, as I have never had that happen with my normal brand. Weird as it was, I fished preparing my cup-o-joe because, let's be honest here; it's really the only thing I have to look forward to at work. Between steeping and finishing my cup of coffee, I'm almost positive everyone in the building stopped by my office to see what the heck smelled so good. Needless to say, I think I just screwed everyone in the building into paying $15 for a pound of coffee they've never tried before. Oh well, still cheaper than Starbucks...and a gazillion times better.Be warned, once you make the plunge there is no going back...P.S. This really is quite stomach friendly. I've had norovirus like symptoms (gross, I know, but tis true) from every other coffee I've tried. Not one bit of acid has decided to creep back up my throat from this coffee. Rejoice.5
