EXCELLENT BATH BENCHVery sturdy, very stable, Being a large man and handicapped to the point that I can't stand for only a few minutes and I have difficulty getting up this bench serves me well. All previous chairs with out the braces were very unstable in the tub. Also with the legs in the lowest position it is plenty high and I have a standard tub and it fits very nicely in the bench position. Very please with it 5Sturdy. Good product support.First, Appears to be strong. Patient broke our previous chair when she slipped onto the chairs pushing it sideways. This one has cross bracing lower on the legs. I am impressed that the braces attach to brackets that are WELDED to the leg tubes. See photo. Second, the chair arrived missing one end cap for the tubes that support the back. See photo. Customer support worked with me at length on the phone to figure out what part I meant; this mistake must not happen often. We figured it out and replacements arrived two days later, a Saturday, FedEx, no charge. FWIW, the part number is SC-858210. 5Good Customer Service for an Imperfect ProductUPDATE: Customer service at Nova-Joy products is great is you find yourself experiencing warranty/quality issues. You can locate the company easily with a Google search and they 100% stand behind their product. Just be sure to hang onto your Amazon receipt and the sticker on the bottom of the seat with the serial number on it. Chris in customer service is amazing!This is at least the second review that notes the manufacturing defect of the seat splitting under normal use, yet Amazon continues to carry the product. When I purchased this item I remember being impressed that there was a warranty but, lo and behold, I see no mention of that in the current product description and the window for contacting the seller has closed. I have tried to communicate previously via Amazon and am EXTREMELY displeased in the support I have received with this issue. It is a no-brainer that it is a manufacturing defect yet I am still draining my shower seat every time I use it. Don't waste your money! 4STRONG, STURDY, EXTREMELY WELL MADE!After hours of research and comparisons online, I chose this NOVA product. I'm very glad I did. It is a very superior product. Extremely well made and lightweight to boot! The design is awesome and the execution superb! I was using a 30 year old bargain store stool - one of a pair, and it collapsed in the shower. The legs had a common, central weld under the seat which had finally broken. Due to no cross-bracing, the flex of the steel tubing had ultimately fractured the weld!Fortunately, my time in Martial arts left me with a fairly good reaction time for an old man. I was able to stand up before the stool and sundry parts hit the shower floor. I can't stand for long - I have zero cartilage in either knee, but with my canes I was able to get out of the shower and sit on top the toilet until my wife brought the other stool and I finished my shower.I was way leery of that other stool and quickly started looking in earnest for it's replacement - which came within ten days or two weeks of the above incident. Thank God for Amazon - there is nothing even remotely like this available here on Maui. Even if it could be found, the vendor would likely want double or triple the amount that Amazon charges. They usually blame their high prices on "the shipping"!This stool has worked out so well! I can actually relax now and enjoy my shower instead of worrying when will this *%#*^~! thing fail! It is rated at 500 pounds and is so well conceived and constructed, I'd be surprised if it wouldn't hold 700 pounds once or twice! It is literally that well made. Amazon got it to me really quick with the free shipping, I was very surprised. Not that they've ever missed on their estimated free shipping dates - they haven't! But it seems that this is the same as the "bench" without the seat back. They do not sell direct to the public, but put me in touch with a reseller. replacement, oredered, received, installed.rating upped by ONE STAR to 5.============================================My original reason for purchasing this seat was due to spinal stenosis which made it impossible to stand long enough (if at all) to take a shower. That original reason is gone (Thank you NYU Langone) due to successful back surgeries. But I still use this chair daily. It is more refined to sit through most of a shower than stand. I also shave in the shower. 5Does as it says but eventually will break down a bitI purchased this back in 2016 and wasn't very serious about using it as i already had the drive medical bath chair with rotating seat (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FPRBI0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). However this one became more used because the seat was wider and because the cross metal bars made it feel sturdier to me (if you're heavier make no mistake you NEED the cross bars for stability). It has done well over the years, however in the last year 2018 I noticed the white plastic seat where the metal bars are (just under the seat) has cracked. This wouldn't be an issue for me except I'm nowhere near the weight capacity of this bench and where the plastic is cracked hits the back of my thighs. This is used at every shower now, so there is some measure of pain now because of this bench. I'm looking to replace it. I'm not sure I'd buy it again but in fairness it has lasted 2 years before this started and an additional 1/2 year before I went to replace it. I suppose these things don't last forever, and it has done well for 2 years, so I gave it a 4 star. If it had continued to last to this day I'd have given it 5 though. 4Seat splits at the seamI was pleased with this chair at first. It's very sturdy and I feel safe on it with the crossbars keeping the legs from spreading out like other chairs. However, as others have noted, after a while the plastic seat splits along the seam where the top and bottom halves are glued together. Not only does this allow water to collect inside, but the seam edges jut out painfully and pinch my skin wherever it makes contact. I estimated the number of uses I got before this problem occurred, and sadly it was only about 3 months. I did eventually get a replacement seat directly from Nova as I couldn't find one on Amazon, but I had to purchase it as the warranty was long gone. Still cheaper than a new bench. In case anyone's interested, I also sent photos of the broken seat to Nova and asked them to reconsider their seat assembly design. 3Sit On ThisFirst off, this isn't my first bariatric shower chair. I've had several. They do break eventually... but the reviewers saying THIS chair broke immediately must have gotten a defective product. Instead of posting that it broke immediately and marking it one star, why not do a refund through Amazon, people? It's free to ship back, and where I live in this dinky small town, UPS will even pick the box up for me the next day. All I have to do is get it ready to go back. No need for one-star reviews on defective products.Second, thanks to a rather severe knee injury on top of back and hip issues, showering standing is no longer an option for me. It's dangerous. Slipping and falling and re-injuring what's already ripped and torn is bad. A shower chair like this stops that from happening. Well worth the money. This chair's comfortable, small enough for my shower and strong enough to hold me. I can't use the handheld shower head holding notches on either end of the seat, but that's fine. I have a suction cup holder on the shower wall. Plus a really long ten foot hose, bwahahahah!!Third, this was offered with expert assembly for some fool price in the ninety dollar range WHY? Imagine my utter surprise and maniacal laughter when I got the big box - and I do mean big - because, hello, NO ASSEMBLY REQUIRED! I love the way they say "no tools required assembly". Perhaps they mean the height adjustment? That's "no tools", sure... but the whole chair arrives ready-to-use.That is, if you remove the label hanging on it... which might itch your fanny when you get in the shower.Seriously, it's a good chair. Nice price, too. I usually pay far more than this, and I thought "nahhh it's not gonna be okay..." but I was wrong. It's okay. It's a keeper. :) The suction cup tips keep it in place, I didn't wobble or slide in the wet shower, and I absolutely luxuriated in my shower today. *big grin*Thanks NOVA Medical Products! 5Sturdy chair, easy to adjustFantastic chair. I have to use this as I'm currently unable to stand in the shower due to a broken leg. It's a bit awkward to get in and out, but that's because my tub is very small. I have to keep the chair sideways in the tub due to the width of my tub, but that's how it was for the 2 other stools I used before I got this one (neither of them held up). The cross bar provides additional support, and it's very easy to adjust to a good height. I've recommended to a friend who also broke his leg. I do not recommend breaking your leg. That sucks. 5Defected SeatI am 64 years old with problems with my knees and feet, so taking shower standing up is almost impossible. I bought this bench a year ago to use for my shower. After a few usage the side seal of the seat opened up and allowed water to collect inside the seat when I take shower. So after each shower I have to tilt the bench and lay it on its side to allow water to pour out from the opened up seal. I ignored the problem until I remembered that I can write this review to express my disappointment. It is obvious that I got a defected unit. I wonder if anyone else has experienced the same problem or I am the only lucky one. 1
