Product Description Product Description
Zinc is essential to the normal function of many organs and systems within the body including the skeletal, immune, neurological, and endocrine systems.* Zinc is a necessary mineral co-factor for hundreds of enzymatic reactions related to protein and carbohydrate metabolism, RNA/DNA synthesis, and intercellular signaling.* It is also known to play a critical role in the body’s defense against oxidative processes and is especially helpful for maintenance of healthy aging.*

Supplementing zinc is tricky. Here are some things to know:Zinc is not one of those nutrients that you can just take without paying attention to what you are doing. Here are some important considerations:The RDA for adults, depending on which resource you consult and whether it is for males or females, and the referenced age, is somewhere between 8 - 14 mg for adults. The upper limit of safe intake is 40 mg. Notice that this product is 50 mg, and yes, that is OK, and that is because you will not absorb all of this zinc. However, zinc picolinate may be the best absorbed of the available supplements, as this form led to significant increases in hair, urine and erythrocyte zinc levels (Agents Actions. 1987 Jun;21(1-2):223-8). Other acceptable forms are Zinc Citrate and Zinc Gluconate. Some people do not seem to absorb Zinc oxide, and so I would not recommend that form (J Nutr. 2014 Feb;144(2):132-6. doi: 10.3945/jn.113.181487. Epub 2013 Nov 20.)A second consideration is that unlike some other nutrients, the amount of zinc that you absorb will not depend on whether you had a deficiency or not, but upon your current intake. Zinc seems to be better absorbed from a supplement than from food, however, within 24 hours of supplementing zinc, absorption seems to be down-regulated (Int J Vitam Nutr Res. 2010 Oct;80(4-5):300-6. doi: 10.1024/0300-9831/a000037). Because the body adjusts to your zinc intake quite rapidly this is a supplement that should be taken regularly rather than one that you take only when you think you may need it. Exceptions may be days when you definitely eat enough high-zinc foods. Lists are readily available online- just use one that has the % RDA included, as some foods that appear on these lists have less than 10% of your RDA per serving so it is unlikely that you'd obtain enough through them. Zinc is essential for health, and it isn't easy to get it from food, though if you're having a huge porterhouse steak then you don't need to supplement that particular day!A final consideration is that zinc must be kept in balance with copper. Copper is often over-looked because we do not need too much. However zinc blocks the absorption of copper, so when your zinc goes up, so does your need for copper. Yet, a study found that over 60% of those prescribed a zinc supplement were directed to take zinc at levels that would lead to a copper deficiency. Some of them actually were not deficient in zinc- your serum levels may be misleading if you have systemic inflammation or hypoalbuminaemia (J Clin Pathol. 2015 Sep;68(9):723-5. doi: 10.1136/jclinpath-2014-202837. Epub 2015 Jun 17). If you have been directed to take zinc by your physician, it is important that you also attend to your copper levels. If you are a patient with cancer, then work with your team on this, as you may require more strict, low levels of copper.I would give this supplement 5 stars if it either included copper to prevent a supplement-induced deficiency, or if it included a warning of that risk on the label. As it is, someone may trade one problem for another, unaware that the supplement could be a contributing factor. I hope that this review is helpful to you. Let me know, and good health to you! 4Acne tamer, but 50 mg too high a dose?I bought these together with a DIM supplement because I suffer from hormonal acne on my face and back. I did consult with my provider on acne, but I did not want to go on birth control pills or antibiotics, or even the dreaded accutane, so I researched alternatives. After some internet reading, I decided on supplementing with these (and diindolylmethane or DIM). It's been about 3.5 months since I started, and following it's directions, I took 1 pill a day of this zinc supplement. I saw results after a month in which the acne on my back completely stopped and I only had about 1-2 break outs on my face during my monthly cycle. I was happy with these results, however, my skin color also changed to a noticeable darker hue which bothered me. Nonetheless, I continued to take these for another 2.5 months until recently, in which I stopped taking them about a week ago (I continue to take DIM). My only issue with this zinc is, I suspect this high a dosage is what's causing my skin tone to darken unfavorably (like a metallic strange undertone) and so I plan to go two weeks or a month without zinc, to see how much acne I get, and use that to gauge whether I should take a lower dose of zinc, or look for another supplement altogether that won't affect my skin tone. In the week that I've gone without zinc, my skin tone (african american brown/black) is now back to normal, however, I've already had a zit on my face, which I don't get at all when I take zinc unless it's my monthly cycle. I do recommend these to anyone looking to help treat their acne alternatively to pharmaceuticals, and my issue with it seems to be unique to me. 3Small white bumps on lips and chin gone!Just want to start off and say I m no doctor. Just wanted to share my feedback on zinc picolinate. It s was odd because I fixed my diet (less dairy and meat) anything with hormones basically I can still eat those things but I reduced my intake of them by at least 95%.That plus drinking plenty of water, Asian skin care, black soap, tea tree oil, lemon oil, and sunscreen Collectively seem to have got my skin back to a more youthful glow and reduces dark spots. But inspite of these improvements for some reason I couldn t stop these lil white spots from appearing on my chin and around my mouth. By 5 pm new ones always grew and it was embarrassing!Well ironically I had these things in my cabinet. I tend to by things and expect instant results and then stop using them.Recently i recalled seeing some YouTube blogs where some people reported this brand of zinc could help with acne but what I had appeared to be more than acne so I said why not let s give it a try again. So I took 2! At night before I slept and 2 in the morning. Have a feeling my dosage is not medically approved and it s possible my body isn t processing all of this zinc. However my white spots have not returned in 1 week. Also want to share that I work in a very stressful work environment and I m sure that contributed to the bumps as well but inspite of those conditions nothing has surfaced.Thank you!Ordering a back up supply as we speak. 5No stomach upsetI take this at night and have no stomach upset. I'm not sure if it's improve my immune system or not but it was suggested by my homeopathic doctor to help reduce the buildup of copper that showed up on a blood test. They specifically recommended this version of zinc. 5Oh, the Kink in your Zinc!I know not what to think of Zinc . I purchased it whilst on the brinkOf feeling all my life force sinkInto a steaming pit of stink. My doc said "Sometimes there's a link'Twixt minerals that plunk and plinkAnd lose their balance on the rink Inside your veins. That's what I think."N ow, nothing was prescribed in inkBut I gulped down this pill (with drink)And watched my cheeks for signs of pinkMy dead hair, might it shine like mink?My tired eyes, with alertness blink? My other parts...nudge nudge, wink wink?Alas, here is my truth of Zinc:I feltNO changesHappenink. 3Love Zinc P!Love this stuff. My hair hasn't grown for years, I've been taking 2 of these a day since January and my hair has grown EIGHT INCHES. And my fingernails have never been this long, thick, and strong in my whole life 5Worth buying, IMHO.These have been working great. I had to wait several months to try to notice any benefits. The main thing that's improved is my hair's growing stronger, like the roots in particular have thickened so my hair's not falling out as easily anymore. Definitely will renew my supply for these regularly. And once again, I'm satisfied with Now brand. Thanks. 5Zinc Picolinate for high EstrogenWorked great! Brought my estrogen levels from 80 to 40 5Great for my skin and overall healthThese pills are great. I wanted something to help keep my skin clear and for an immunity boost in general, because I was catching colds a lot more often than usual despite all my other precautions. So far so good! I've been able to ward off sickness this flu season and my breakouts have been kept at bay, so I'm very happy to have added this to my arsenal. Also these pills are very affordable; I've been taking these for two and a half months and will be restocking soon!Side note: I ordered zinc picolinate specifically because it's said to be the best absorbed form of zinc. 5Great for nailsMakes my nails grow long. Nothing makes my nails grow! It takes several weeks, but it makes them stronger and longer. 5
