Impressively SupportiveKnee Braces... if you're already at that stage of your knee's life, things already feel annoying... knee braces or sleeves do the job. But until I put on this Pro-Tec Athletics Gel Force Knee Sleeve, I never thought a "brace" would make me feel good about the knees again. Bzzzz... wrong.This Gel Force Knee brace is pretty awesome. What I thought was a sales pitch (4way stretch design), is not. Unlike some past girlfriends, this brace is pretty supportive. It really does seem to work and feel good. For the first time in quite a long time, my knees were not something on my mind while running.And the gel ring that circles and braces your patella (knee cap) is not as aggressive as other designs that dig into the underside of your knee. That too is pretty awesome.But how do I really feel? Woot!-Bruce fr brusimm.comFebruary 2013 UPDATEA WORD OF CAUTION.Yes, everything I've said in the above review is true, but leave it to me to find a flaw or two.The first problem is that YOU SHOULD NEVER WASH THEM in the washing machine. Or at least that's my take. I had hand washed them the first few times, but one day I decided to toss them in the wash. The knee cap rings are actually ONLY GLUED in and the washing machine did it in. They came out of both braces I owned.The Pro-Tec website has no warning about that issue. I looked to make sure I didn't miss something.The next huge disappointment was when I left a consumer message on their website's contact form, Pro-Tec never replied. It's been a few months.Other than that, even without the knee braces, they're still pretty effective. But I have issues with this lack of a reply and am in conflict as to if I want to continue to support the company.5Feels supportiveI've been using this sleeve for about six months now. It feels good and fits nicely; it seems to provide a bit of support and stability. Honestly, though, I'm not really sure that it does much. I have a torn meniscus, which prevents me from doing any serious activity--including just a basic jog. But I wanted something I could use when I skip rope. (The last time I hurt my knee was when my meniscus popped while I using the skip rope.) My sense is that the Pro-tec knee sleeve helps provide a bit of extra stability, but it certainly doesn't enable me to resume more strenuous exercises.However, for people considering more expensive options, such as the Bauerfeind Knee Support (which costs $80), I would recommend you save some money and get the Pro-tec. I tried the Bauerfeind, and I could not discern any difference between it and the Pro-tec sleeve. If anything, I feel the Pro-tec provides better support.4Best knee brace you'll find.I've had patellofemoral syndrome in my knee for almost a decade due to an undiscovered micro patellar tendon tear. I needed a knee brace for support during activity, and for compression/alignment after my workouts are done. I bought this brace 4 years ago, and it blew me away. It compresses like the sleeve braces, but the side splints also give structural support to your knee. Finally, the knee pad in the middle keeps my knee cap on track and really helps with pain.My 4 year old brace survived countless basketball games, HIIT workouts, rehab sessions, and just normal everyday use. I hand washed and hung dried it to ensure its longevity, but I was in a rush twice and threw it in the washer machine. The washer ripped the cloth backing that holds the kneepad in place and it came out. Instead of stitching it, I'm a chemist so I mended it with some flexible epoxy I whipped up, but I still wanted to replace it just in case.I bought another brace and it's the exact same as the one I bought 4 years ago. I expect it to hold up the same, and have already worn both just around the house for some re-alignment and support and have no complaints.5 star product due to performance and quality!5Great knee supportI use this product for hiking and backpacking. It not only provides excellent support, but also compression. Without it, I could not have completed a recent backpacking trip. I find that it is relatively comfortable-it does not roll down from the top or up from the bottom. I like the gel foam that surrounds the knee cap. I also like the vertical stays on either side that provide additional support. There may be more heavy-duty knee braces out there, but for now this brace fills my needs.5Amazing Product!!! Fits tight and great.**UPDATE 6/23/2015**I still am giving this product a FULL 5 stars, I've had this SAME pair of knee sleeves over the course of 2 years and 3 months. JUST today, the inner cloth, protecting the gel/foam surrounding the knee cap gave way, and unfortunately ripped. I DID in fact, make sure that each knee had its' own respective knee sleeve (marking LEFT/RIGHT), to prevent disfiguring, which is why this probably has lasted this long! Over the course of the two years, I have snowboarded, played basketball, and worn for normal occasions this knee sleeve at least 3-5 days a week (give or take). Although I do not recommend this for snowboarding due to its inability to repel water, these knee sleeves did help me with the reinforcement I needed for snowboarding, provided it gave a little warmth as well. I am in for another pair, Again, these knee sleeves are for general purposes, and nothing too specific... BUT IT DID ITS JOB even for snowboarding, playing basketball, jogging, etc... and it lasted for almost 2.5 years! I am sad to part ways with these knee sleeves.. it has done a lot for me, and I am very unfortunate to toss these sleeves away. That is how much respect I have for this product. =). OVERALL: I WILL BUY ANOTHER PAIR! (2.5 years of usage and finally ripped!)-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I am giving this a full 5 stars, because it is very well worth it.I have never checked out my knee's with my Doctor's, and know it would be an expensive visit because my knees are very worn out from basketball. I am a young teen, very active with my feet, and I tend to rarely bend my knees when standing upright and such.For basketball: this product is amazing, I purchased the small size, and it is a tight fit, but as I thought, overtime, it expanded perfectly to my knee width. The cushioning provides ease of movement, and there's no problem getting my knees to move freely with these knee supports.These knee supports keep my knees warm at work, during basketball, and even at home when I walk upstairs. It helps me because my knees have suffered cartilage loss through basketball training and tournaments. Throughout time, I knew I needed something for my knees. I've tried things from local convenient stores that costed around the same price, but I had no luck with it. With the Pro-Tec Athletics Gel Force Knee Sleeve, I am happily using this product with great usefulness.The product itself is very sturdy, and as others have said, it "smells" after time. I've had this product for about 6 months now, and with average wear, there's no tear, no smell, and no misfit problems. I recommend this product to anybody that has knee pain during cold winters, or even heated summers, because this product has worked for me, as opposition the knee braces and warmers I've worn from Wal-mart, Target, etc.5Very good knee braces!I play basketball about 3~4 times a week. Before trying these knee braces, I have tried others but they were not good. I found these a few years ago and have since been using them for my basketball activities. I have no regrets getting these. Easy to put on and I felt the protection and support immediately. My first pair last more than a couple years, I bought a second pair and they work like a champ for me! A couple times recently I forgot to bring them and played without them, my knees were sore the next day so it definitely helped! After several weeks of training without issues, I found myself limping after a day of street walking (no, not that kind) in a backup pair of shoes. Very concerned that I would not be able to complete the planned-for trip (Holy Lands, strenuous hiking, 1200 foot climbs over rough terrain), I found this highly recommended brace. I am big (over 260 lbs) and with very large thigh circumference above the knee (23"). I ordered the XL.This brace gave a great combination of stabilization, flexibility, fit, ease of use, and comfort. I used it 8 days straight for hiking, developing only a small abrasion on the inside of my thigh, close to the knee, that was easily solved with a small Nexcare waterproof bandage. The doughnut-shaped patellar isolator did a great job, and my knee health actually improved during the trip - I went from having pain when walking and sleeping to no pain. It was comfortable enough to sleep in.I would follow the recommendation to hand wash after every use, and strongly recommend having a microfiber towel to assist in drying.Your results may vary, but I heartily recommend this brace.5Six years later!I tore my meniscus again, so I went to my medicine cabinet a pulled out this brace. Works great on stabilizing my knee, and is comfortable and flexible. I began to think about the last time I had this injury. Thand God for Amazon order history, because I was able to see I bought this brace six years ago. I swear it s like brand new and my knee is already feeling better again!5Good solution for my bad kneesI purchased this support to wear at night due to excruciating pain from a torn meniscus in my left knee. I needed something with lateral support that would help stabilize the joint from the weight of my right leg when laying on my side at night. I also wanted material that would not just make my knee sweat like my neoprene support does. A full hinged knee brace is too uncomfortable to wear at night. I tried using an "Ace" brand support with side stays, but found it was too short and the stays in the side dug into my calf causing numbness and bruising. I have only had the "Pro-Tec Athletics Gel Force Knee Sleeve" to wear for a couple nights, but it appears to be the solution for my needs without paying 3-4X the cost... or more, for a fitted or custom support. It's long enough the stays don't dig into my calf, the material is breathable so it doesn't make my leg sweat excessively, it adequately supports my knee at night, and is comfortable enough that I can sleep through the night. I don't use this for support during the day, so I can't speak to how it would be for support when playing sports. I am purchasing another one for the right knee that has had reconstruction surgery as I am finding it needs support at night as well.4Serves Me WellI was looking for a knee sleeve that would provide additional support and extended wear-ability. This one has a lot of good reviews and I thought it worth trying out, especially for the price. I have what I'll call a weak knee, in that I frequently have pain that is probably from damage to the meniscus. This pain will start up and make it hard to walk. Each step feels like a sharp stab. Usually, if I rest it and am careful, that pain will go away and I can walk normally within several days or maybe two weeks. I wanted to find something to give my knee extra support for more strenuous activities and or while recovering from one of these flare-ups. I started out ordering a Medium, which according to Pro-Tec's sizing is for 14" to 16" as measured according to their instructions. My knee measured 16" and I thought having it a little snug would be better than a little loose. Upon receiving the Medium and trying it on I found that the fit was too snug. I wanted to be able to wear it for several hours and thought the medium would grow uncomfortable too quickly. It is a tight fit. So I returned the Medium and ordered a Large. The Large is list to fit 16" to 18" and it is still snug on my 16" knee, but more comfortable than the Medium. I wore it most of the day this past Saturday, working on various projects around the house, climbing a ladder multiple times to load boxes in the attic as well as working on other projects. The support worked well and I didn't have any pain. I'm not sure I understand just how the gel padding around the knee cap really helps or what its function really does, but I didn't have any problems. I did notice a little bit of irritation from the fabric in the bend behind my knee when I needed to squat down for any period of time. All in all the support was fairly comfortable for wearing for several hours. I believe it will serve me well.4
