The beautiful green oil you miss from GreeceThis oil is fabulous! Everything you love about real kalamata olive oil. It is green, fruity, aromatic and fresh! So good that you could eat it by itself, and you can taste the sunshine. Close your eyes and you are back in Greece! I have ordered twice now, I have friends who are now getting some for themselves after tasting mine. You will not regret it!5Thank You, Athena!!!!In some ways, I really am spoiled. I realize that as a former educator, living on a former educator's salary, this statement might seem odd. However, I'm absolutely serious and this olive oil helps to prove my point.Enter Terra Creta Olive Oil. As we all know, olive oil was a gift to the Greeks, courtesy of the goddess Athena. It is olive oil that largely built the ancient Greek economy and thus promulgated Greek culture through the ancient world by means of economic exchange. That exchange was fostered by the highly prized olive oil that was acknowledged as the world's best.To this day, Greece is fiercely protective of the reputation of its olive oil--and rightly so. In its pure, unadulterated form, it is a glorious addition to your kitchen's staples, adding flavor, polish and nutrition to a wide array of dishes. Unfortunately, if you don't live in Greece--or in the EU--your olive oil is probably NOT unadulterated in some form. In the EU, Greek olive oil is protected by strict labeling and production laws so that the consumer can be assured of getting an authentic product, and thus an authentic experience. Here in the States, there are no such nation-wide laws, so the olive oil we get--even the extra virgin--is adulterated by other oils, or at least a pastiche of different regions, producers, etc., who are committed to driving down costs more than they are to producing excellent oils. The Terra Creta is an emphatic disavowal of this practice. It is an estate-produced oil created under exacting, heavily monitored conditions, with each can getting a unique label (see picture above), which functions as a birth certificate, more or less, so that you can practically trace the moment it was harvested. All of this effort reaps rewards for the consumer. This oil is a revelation compared to the pathetic stuff that you get at the average supermarket. It's vivid, earthy and fills the mouth with subtle notes that lean more towards the fruity end (at least in my experience; some have said it comes across as a bit more on the peppery side). In any case, it is truly excellent for dipping bread, making salad, making garlic butter, or anything that requires a moderate base note and delicate upper notes of olive flavor. As for the cost, you look at the price of the tin and think, "wow, that's a bit excessive." You'd be wrong. Look at how much you get and then figure a per-ounce cost vs. the "extra virgin" you get at the supermarket. Then, think about how what you eat becomes a part of you. Then, think about how short life is and how we should seize those beautiful pleasures that are within our reach while we can. Does it seem expensive now?5quality product at amazing priceMy first time buying an olive oil not produced in the USA. Wonderful product. Buttery taste - great balance. We are using it for both cooking and general use )recently had with fresh black olive peasant loaf and it was a beautiful blending of oil joining bread, lol) Bought it because of the fires in California limiting our usual source but after noticing a small price for the quantity did not feel that I would be losing a lot in trying it. Will definitely venture that way again.5Fantastic fresh and light tasting olive oil. This is the 3rd rime I have purchased the 3L can of this olive oil. It is an excellent product. Light, fresh, and crisp tasting. We use for salads and everyday cooking. I am picky about olive oil and have tried many different brands. This oil is so good you will be tempted to drink it.5Great/favorite olive oil - but tin was dentedTastes great. My family s favorite olive oil - just like the olive oil served with a fresh loaf of bread, a bowl of dried oregano, and a small bowl of coarse sea salt at the start of supper at our favorite restaurant in Crete, in Afrata, near Kolymbari, in the region this olive oil comes from. It has the smooth buttery taste of great Greek oil, as opposed to the sharp grassy taste of most extra virgin Italian plive oil that is available here.Only problems:1. Hard to pull out the spout.2. Our second order was not well packed and arrived dented - thankfully not cracked.5At last...a fantastic DPO olive oil at a reasonable price! After traveling overseas to the Mediterranean region, we discovered what real olive oil tastes like...not the overpriced generic olive oil you typically find on the top shelf of the local grocery store. I'm talking about single region or even single farm & single varietal olive oil. It has so much character and distinctive taste.Since returning from overseas and burning through the supply of oil we brought back with us. We have been on the hunt for amazing regional olive oil. We learned there are certain accreditations you should look for (PDO/DOP is the primary one to look for in Mediterranean oils)We hit the proverbial jackpot when we discovered Terra Creta. We have bought both the Estate PDO oil and the traditional PDO oil. Both were excellent oils particularly given the lower price point. However, the Estate PDO uses only Koroneiki olives and has a much more distinctive nutty flavor. Everytime we use it in salads, drizzeld over bread or making pesto we are reminded of our trip. Truly fantastic olive oil.Buy a tin of it, invite your friends over, bake a crusty bread and drizzle the oil over it and your friends will think you are a gourmet cook!5No your typical super market olive oilWe decided to buy this after a family friend who gave us a bottle after returning from Greece. We were so amazed with the nutty rich flavor that we had to buy something from the Crete region. We decided to go with Terra Creta after reading lots of positive reviews. This product surely didn't disappoint. We add this to everything and it makes everything taste so much better. From bread, pasta to vegetables, you will love this unique taste. I just don't get this taste from your super market olive oils. Great product and will buy again after it runs out.5Olives harvested on 12/2017 but bottled on 08/2018My wife and I alone consume 1.5 liters of olive oil a week. We don't cook with it, it's just the salads, hummus, baba ghanooj, and Za'atar with bread. My family owns hundreds of acres of olive trees in Syria and we have been making the best olive oil for 1100 years. Due to the current situation back home I wasn't able to have any oil shipped to the US for my use since 2011 . I have been trying all EVOOs on the market from Walmart and wholefoods to amazon to everywhere. It's either astronomically pricey or disappointingly mixed and low quality. Today I got my order and tried Terra Creta for the first time and although I wasn't impressed I was happy with the quality. This is a genuine EVOO by all mean for a good price (11$/liter). And while it's no match to what I had back home I'm making this oil my favorite and hence I ordered 12 liters more. However, one thing has caught my attention and it's the harvest and bottling dates. I tracked my oil using the lot number on the bottle and it says Olives harvested in 12/2017 but bottled in 08/2018 (screen shot attached). This is weird and unusual. I appreciate a response by Terra Creta. I reduced my order hoping for a new harvest to come soon. Thank you again for your dedication to provide a good quality olive oil and honesty in disclosing information about the harvest.4I do like this olive oilTaste is so subjective, so it's hard to leave feedback based on something so personal. However, I do like this olive oil, but it was not what as good as I was hoping. Personally, the three best olive oils I enjoy that had a milder flavor than this one are "Spitiko," "Elea Creta" and "Sparta" Olive Oil. I wish I could buy Elea Creta here in the United States, as that one is probably my favorite. Those are the olive oils that I could just drench my soups and salads in. I purchased this based on reviews from people I have never met before, so to be fair, I had no point of reference to compare their tastes with mine. So maybe someone with similar tastes in olive oil will find this helpful. I just found this one a little strong for me. But I won't waste it and will enjoy it with my salads and soups!3Our favorite olive oil. We am now converts to Greek olive oils and find this the best for the priceGreat fruity flavor, no oily taste, after swallowing you experience a slight peppery burn to your throat. It hits all the bucket-list desires for an olive oil. This is honest to goodness high quality 100% oil, certified by EU inspectors. Why pay for "blended" Spanish or Italian oils (which can use oil from Africa or even use rapeseed oil) with questionable origins when you can have one of the best oils available.5
